Why have Vehicle Anti-Mine Blast Protection?

Troops risk their lives by facing the threat from mines and IED’s (Improvised Explosive Device). To protect them effectively in their operations against these vehicle blast threats requires a protection system that will address all the effects of blast; massive overpressures, impulsive effects, heat and fragmentation. Each of these elements will cause different types and levels of injury; all can be lethal.

Overpressure (or the shockwave) will deform and tear the vehicle apart. Reducing this to sustainable levels enables the protection system and the vehicle to resist the other elements of the blast thus minimising injury such as burst ear drums, lungs, eyes, and crush of lower limbs.

	TABREArmor™ Many conventional protection systems primarily aim to protect against fragmentation only and therefore play minimal part against overpressure. Aigis use their unique TABREArmor™ system, which naturally absorbs and attenuates all elements of blast instead of deflecting it. TABREArmor™ performance can be scaled to different NATO Stanag 4569 threat levels.
